[synopsis] => Quiet your mind, imagine the sound of heavy steel doors closing and locking behind you! The nightmare begins. Doc (Dr.Mary Sliwa), a respected physician, has been declared incompetent and stripped of her rights to do the most basic things. The freedom to come and go at will. The freedom to pick up the phone and call her friend Stella. The freedom to be Doc.
Come, journey with her, absorb the hurt of being isolated and the fear of living out your days in a locked Alzheimer unit. Stella, a loyal, true friend becomes her lifeline to freedom with the court system as the field of battle. The lives of Doc and her friend Stella, like a rollercoaster, experience many highs and lows, and bring the reader to the journey's end. Who triumphs? Whose life is better for this war? Read on........................
Stella's life changes in a split second when her closest friend, Dr.Mary Sliwa phones her, screaming. "Stella, please help me!" Stella discovers that her friend's niece has surreptitiously admitted her to a locked Alzheimer unit.
Stella and Mary, a respected and accomplished physician, have known each other for more than thirty years. They met while working at the same hospital and became loyal, trusting friends.
Prior to her retirement Mary purchased the empty lot next to Stella and built the house of her dreams for her and her older sister Rita. She was a faith filled person who when she retired at seventy-two, was looking forward to continuing to do God's work as she lived her life in the comfort of her home.
Small lapses of memory begin to occur in Mary's daily life. She recognizes the beginning signs of Alzheimer disease and has an attorney establish an irrevocable living trust that states her wish to remain I her home with care, if feasible. She names her niece JEAN as Power of Attorney and Stella as Trustee.
