The collection contains Noble's personal and political correspondence regarding state and national Whig politics, as well as his campaign for Governor of Indiana. Included are letters relating to the Internal Improvement Board, its projects, and correspondence pertaining to the state's debts arisen from such projects.Correspondents include John Badollet, Samuel Bigger, Michael G. Biographical or Historical Data
Noah Noble (1794⁰'₃1844) was a lawyer, farmer, and businessman in Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana. Noble served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, and later as the fifth Governor of Indiana from 1831 to 1837. While as governor, Noble promoted improvements in infrastructure, championing major projects to create canals, roads, and railroads throughout the state. As a member of the Indiana Internal Improvements Board, from 1838 to 1841, Noble oversaw the construction of the Whitewater Canal, Wabash and Erie Canal, Madison and Indianapolis Railroad, and other major road projects.
