Description
"Red Skelton began his extensive and rewarding career in comedy with his own radio show, debuting in 1941 and running until 1952, when he made the switch to television. His radio show served as a springboard to develop his characters, whereupon Skelton brought them to the profitable medium of television. Some of his lovably goofy characters include, Bolivar Shagnasty, Cauliflower McPugg, Clem Kadiddlehopper, Cookie the Sailor, Freddie the Freeloader, George Appleby, Junior (the Mean Widdle Kid), Sheriff Deadeye, Willy Lump Lump, and many more. The quickwitted, hilarious master of physical comedy enjoyed a twenty-year duration of his television series-proof of the comedian's remarkable success and popularity in show business. Skelton's show was aired on the paramount networks of NCB and CBS-the latter station broadcast the series for the majority of its airtime. In fact, the notorious king of CBS' late night television, Johnny Carson, got his big break as a writer for The Red Skelton Show-another indication of the show's significance in television history."--Container.
