This collection includes black-and-white photographs related to the Indiana Division of the American Negro Emancipation Centennial Authority in Indianapolis, Indiana, ranging from 1962 to 1963, concerning the Emancipation Proclamation Luncheon on December 18, 1962 in Indianapolis, the presentation of an award to Izler Solomon in January 1963, the Indiana Division exhibit at the "A Century of Negro Progress" Exposition in Chicago, Illinois on August 18 and September 2, 1963, and the Indiana Emancipation Centennial Exposition in Indianapolis during October 25-27, 1963.

The American Negro Emancipation Centennial Authority (ANECA) was organized in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The Indiana Division of ANECA formed to promote the centennial's commemoration within the state, in accordance with the national movement. ANECA was endorsed by Indiana Governor Mathew E. Welsh and Mayor Albert H. Losche of Indianapolis. On December 18, 1962, a luncheon was held in Indianapolis by the Citizens Committee of the Indiana Division of ANECA with speakers including Indiana University president, Dr. Elvis J. Stahr, Jr, Governor Welsh, and Alton Davis of Chicago, the executive director and founder of ANECA. On January 13, 1963, Mayor Losche presented conductor Izler Solomon a merit award from ANECA at a performance of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. ANECA held the "A Century of Negro Progress" Exposition in Chicago during August 16-September 3, 1963, where the Indiana Division had an exhibit. In Indianapolis, the Indiana Division of ANECA and the Indiana Emancipation Cemtennial Commission, created by the Indiana General Assembly, held its own Hoosier-centric Century of Progress Exposition in the Manufacturers' Building at the Indiana State Fairgrounds during October 25-27, 1963. According to the state chairman, Willard B. Ranson, the exposition would "reflect the advancement of the Negro in the past century and aspirations of the future."
