This collection includes black-and-white photographs from the Indiana Department of Conservation and others in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1963, depicting the installation of the Young Abe Lincoln statue, created by sculptor David Kresz Rubins, on the Indiana state government campus and the subsequent unveiling ceremony. There is also a photocopy of an undated newspaper clipping with a photograph of the statue and a caption.

Young Abe Lincoln is a rugged bronze statue created by David K. Rubins in 1962 to depict the 16th U.S. president at an age when he lived in Indiana. The statue's creation was delayed due to controversy over the use of taxpayer dollars to fund the project. A piece of public artwork, it was originally installed outside the Indiana State Office Building in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was unveiled and dedicated on September 26, 1963. In 1988, the statue was relocated to the Indiana Statehouse lawn to make way for the construction of Indiana Government Center South. On July 10, 1991, the statue was graffitied where it sat on a concrete slab on the southwest lawn. The statue and its granite base were subsequently moved outside Indiana Government Center South, near to its original location. It currently stands outside of the Government Center building off of West Street and Robert D. Orr Avenue on a 2-foot high granite pedestal. Sources: Items in the collection. Schwantes, Jon.
