Tucker Crosden has taken his pregnant, prize-winning pit bull on a trapping trip with him. She gives birth but she and most of her litter are killed by Black Wolf. One pup escapes, running to the cave of Black Wolf's mate, La Sombra, who is nursing a litter of her own. To Black Wolf's disgust, La Sombra insists she has given birth to a white wolf.
